De-regulation of IPL and Laser Equipment for Tattoo Removal

Following deregulation of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and laser light equipment, tattoo removal is increasingly  available at beauty salons and other similar establishments. The equipment is relatively powerful and potentially dangerous. De-regulation allows more VAT to be raised.

The Pulselight Clinic has over a decade of experience and acknoweldges the view that IPL when used by an inexperienced person can cause problems (e.g. permanent pigmentation changes).

There can be other problems, for example if the safety goggles are not worn properly, retinal damage and blindness can result, should the inexperienced operator cause a beam to be reflected off a piece of mirrored metal or glass etc.

Tattoo  removal at a beauty salon is not always cheaper than a clinic and anyone thinking about having a tattoo removed should first ask for a free first consultation from a recognised clinic - consider using our contact form.

Following deregulation, any person using a beauty salon might be advised to ensure that the it has sufficient insurance to cover any claims should they suffer any ill effects. Light can cause burning that is not immediately painful (e.g. consider sunburn).

It is well documented that when the wrong setting was used with IPL equipment in a beauty salon, the client had to go to Accident and Emergency to be treated for 3rd degree burns.
